Progreso ISD Gifted and Talented

Progreso ISD defines gifted and talented students as children or youth in grades K–12 who perform at, or demonstrate the potential to perform at, an exceptionally high level of achievement when compared to others of the same age, experience, or environment. These students exhibit:

  • outstanding intellectual ability
  • excel in one or more specific academic areas, including mathematics, science, language arts, and/or social studies.

Progreso ISD Gifted and Talented Program Philosophy

Progreso ISD is committed to recognizing and nurturing the unique abilities of gifted and talented students by providing challenging, enriched, and academically appropriate learning experiences. The GT Program serves students who demonstrate high intellectual ability or excel in academic areas such as math, science, language arts, and social studies. With a focus on equity, the district ensures fair identification and services for all student populations, including bilingual and twice-exceptional learners, so that every gifted student can reach their full potential.

Gifted and Talented Student Services in Progreso ISD

At the elementary level, identified GT students are served through a pull-out GT program at their neighborhood school, with enrichment focused on the four core content areas: math, science, English language arts, and social studies.

At the middle school level, GT students are served through Advanced and Pre-AP classes in core subjects, designed to provide increased academic rigor and prepare students for high school-level coursework.

At the high school level, GT students have access to a range of advanced academic opportunities, including Advanced Placement (AP) courses, Dual Credit, and Dual Enrollment options through partnerships with local colleges. These programs support college and career readiness by allowing students to earn college credit while still in high school.

Referral Process

The Gifted and Talented (GT) identification process in Progreso ISD begins with a nomination. Parents, teachers, and community members are encouraged to participate by submitting a nomination form to the student’s campus. This form serves as the first step in recognizing students who may demonstrate exceptional academic potential or intellectual ability. Please submit the form to the campus principal. Once submitted, the campus will initiate the formal screening and assessment process to determine eligibility for GT services.
